Electronic transactions record broken right before Christmas

Brussels, 24 December 2021 – After the record number of electronic transactions registered on Saturday 18 December, Worldline - the European leader in the payments and transactional services industry - registered a new record of 11.8 million electronic transactions on Thursday 23 December in brick-and-mortar and online shops, as well as a record number of transactions per minute on Friday 24 December with a peak of 22,963 transactions at 11.30 am.
Record-breaking day for electronic payments in Belgium
On Thursday 23 December, Belgian consumers completed 11,840,179 million electronic payments in both bricks-and-mortar and online shops, thus becoming the number one day in the history of electronic payments in Belgium. The previous record had only just been broken last Saturday, the 18th of December, with 11,413,641 electronic transactions in one day.
Record peak per minute
The record number of transactions per minute, which had also been declared on Saturday 18 December (20,734 transactions at 11.42am), did not last long either. Friday 24 December, a new record was posted with 22,963 transactions at 11.30am.
Best Sunday ever
Sunday 19 December broke a record as well with 6,414,748 electronic transactions processed that day. Because of this, the last Sunday before Christmas turned out to be the best Sunday ever in terms of electronic payments.
