More than 19.504 transactions per minute processed today, Tuesday 24th December

Brussels, 24 December 2019 - On Tuesday 24 December, the record for the number of electronic payments per minute was broken. Worldline [Euronext: WLN], Europe's largest provider of payment and transaction services, processed 19.504 payments at 11h41 on Christmas Eve. The Sunday before Christmas also drew big crowds to the stores and became the best Sunday on record to date for electronic payments.

Record number of transactions per minute

The record for the number of electronic transactions per minute was broken this Tuesday 24 December, with a peak of more than 19.504 electronic transactions at 11:41. Last year’s peak on Christmas Eve was 19,143 electronic transactions at 11:42.

12% increase compared to the last weekend before Christmas

In the last weekend before Christmas, 16,354,639 electronic payments were processed, an increase of 12% compared to the previous weekend (14-15/12).

On Saturday 21 December, Belgians made 10,535,817 electronic payments, making this day the frontrunner in the history of electronic payments in Belgium.

Sunday 22 December also broke a record: with 5,818,822 electronic payments processed, the Sunday before Christmas became the best Sunday ever in terms of electronic payments.
